Deja Thoris by PaulAbrams Deja Thoris by PaulAbrams
16x12 oils on canvas panel- I was testing out a "new" medium, meaning Artisan's "new and improved" fast drying medium for their water soluble oil paints. Incredibly, it lived up to there claim, unlike it's previous version- it stayed workable for about four hrs and dried overnight.
Anyway- here's the result using it mixed into the paints

THAT is a face a Virginia gentleman could fall in love with. Thanks for avoiding ERB's usual fondness for flatness. Looks VERY nice.

Haha, seems like it. I really like your work, I was shocked to see that you weren't on my hit...(ahem) watch list (:+devwatch:) ;P but you are now. :D

If you wouldn't mind, could you give me some advice or point me towards good resources/books for understanding how to paint in general and specifically skin (especially the female form).

Thank You so much!

Sure man- real oils are easier than the water soluble but mineralspirits / turpentine in the mediums is toxic, but I love the manipulablity I get using a medium, so I go with the water soluble- besides, I'm lazy about clean up and that's easier with them too.
good painting books?
How to paint like the Old Masters by Joseph Sheppard- definitely do some of his demos to understand it-
Oil Painting Secrets from a master by Leffel
Creative Illustration by Andrew Loomis--his other books are great too, though more about drawing---but if one cant draw it, then one cant paint it

hope this helps
